Mark Mitchell Commits to Kentucky, Filling Final Roster Spot
Former Missouri forward Mark Mitchell committed to Kentucky on Saturday after receiving temporary court relief that allows him to pursue a fifth season of college basketball. The 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward averaged 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season and earned Second Team All-SEC honors. Mitchell is expected to enroll as Kentucky’s fall semester begins Monday, though the broader legal fight over fifth-year eligibility remains unresolved.
Four Former Wildcats Enter Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame
Pat Doyle, Anthony Epps, Allen Feldhaus Sr. and Bob Tallent were among the 2026 inductees honored Saturday by the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame in Lexington. Doyle played four seasons for Adolph Rupp, Epps directed Kentucky’s backcourt during the 1996 NCAA championship season, Feldhaus played for Rupp before a distinguished coaching career, and Tallent was a member of the 1966 “Rupp’s Runts” team.
Hoops and Heels Returns to Memorial Coliseum in September
Mark and Lee Anne Pope will host the third annual Hoops and Heels event Sept. 25 at Historic Memorial Coliseum. The UK Athletics event gives participants an inside look at the basketball program while raising money for the Markey Cancer Foundation, continuing a community-oriented tradition Pope has embraced since returning to Kentucky.
P.J. Washington Celebrates His 28th Birthday
Former Kentucky forward P.J. Washington was born Aug. 23, 1998, in Louisville and turns 28 today. Washington played two seasons at Kentucky from 2017-18 through 2018-19 before becoming the No. 12 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and establishing himself as an NBA starter.
Remembering “Little” Louis McGinnis on the Anniversary of His Death
Former Kentucky forward Wallace Louis “Little” McGinnis died on Aug. 23, 2003. McGinnis played for Kentucky across four seasons between 1928 and 1934 and was one of the Wildcats’ leading performers during the program’s transition into the Adolph Rupp era, earning recognition for his scoring and toughness despite standing only 5-foot-9.
