John Wall was named Eastern Conference rookie of the month for February after averaging 16.5 points and 7.9 assists in 12 games. Wall had four games with at least 20 points, five games with at least 10 assists and four double-doubles. He had back-to-back games with at least 20 points and 10 assists in losses to Philadelphia and Miami. He also helped the Wizards end a 26-game road losing streak by getting 19 points and 14 assists in a win in Cleveland.

The Wildcats continued their winning streak at home, pushing their consecutive games won at home to 33, including 32 straight in Rupp Arena with a 76-68 win against 13th-ranked Florida. Darius Miller tallied a career-high 24 points to go along with five rebounds, three blocks and three assists. Joining Miller in double-figures were, Brandon Knight (16) and Doron Lamb (14). Knight stretched his streak of consecutive games scoring in double-digits to 23.
The New York Knicks have waived former Cat Kelenna Azubuike
The New York Knicks have waived guard Kelenna Azubuike, who never played for the team while recovering from major knee surgery. Azubuike was acquired from Golden State on July 9 in the sign-and-trade deal that sent David Lee to the Warriors. He was expected to be ready early in the season after missing the last 73 games in 2009-10, but never got into a game despite saying recently he believed he was close. The move Monday opens a roster spot for a Knicks team that is looking to add size.

Kentucky center Josh Harrellson has only been with the Wildcats three seasons. It just seems longer. Harrellson, who will play his final home game on Tuesday when Kentucky hosts Vanderbilt, has endured one of the most bumpy periods in the program’s history. He was constantly criticized by former Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie and spent his junior year as an afterthought under John Calipari.

Bob Knight, who coached Indiana to three national titles and had 902 wins in 41 seasons, and Virginia great Ralph Sampson are among the eight members of the Class of 2011 of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Also in the class announced Monday are coach Eddie Sutton, players James Worthy, Cazzie Russell and Chris Mullin and contributors Joe Vancisin and Eddie Einhorn. Induction will take place at the Hall of Fame on Nov. 20 as part of a three-day celebration that includes the CBE Classic at Sprint Center featuring Missouri, California, Georgia and Notre Dame.

A pair of teammates – Duke’s Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith – and a pair of freshmen – Kentucky’s Terrence Jones and Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger – are among the ten players selected to appear on the ballot. BYU’s Jimmer Fredette is the lone returning player of the year finalist from a year ago. Other finalists include Big 12 standouts Jordan Hamilton of Texas and Marcus Morris of Kansas, as well as Purdue’s JaJuan Johnson, Connecticut’s Kemba Walker and Arizona’s Derrick Williams.
Brandon Knight named SEC Freshman of the Week
Kentucky’s Brandon Knight was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 21.0 points, 5.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in games against Arkansas and Florida. Knight recorded his UK freshman record 12th 20-point game with a career-high 26 points at Arkansas while also pulling down a career-best eight rebounds. He averaged 5.5 assists on the week and is averaging 6.8 over the last four games. His three 3-pointers on the week put him one-shy of the UK freshman record for 3-pointers in a season with 67. This is his 5th award of the like this year.

Darius Miller’s career night downs Florida; Calipari notches 500th career win

Darius Miller scored a career-high 24 points and Brandon Knight added 16 points and six assists as No. 22 Kentucky surged past No. 13 Florida 76-68 on Saturday. The Wildcats (20-8, 8-6 Southeastern Conference) won their 33rd straight home game and gave coach John Calipari his 500th career victory in bouncing back from a difficult overtime loss to Arkansas on Wednesday. Miller topped the career high of 22 set last week against South Carolina with the kind of dynamic, aggressive play Calipari has been searching for all season.
