A. T. Rice

A. T. Rice was born on April 18, 1901, in Paris, Kentucky. Known by the nickname “Chuck,” he attended Paris High School before enrolling at the University of Kentucky. A 6-foot-1 guard, Rice lettered for the Wildcats from 1922 through 1925, playing during the program’s formative years under Coach W. W. H. Mustaine. He was also a multi-sport athlete at Kentucky, reflecting an era when many of the University’s top athletes competed in more than one varsity sport.

After graduating from Kentucky, Rice made his home in Frankfort, where he served as a coach and teacher at Frankfort High School from 1927 to 1942. He later spent the final 15 years of his career in the traffic department of Schenley Distillers Inc. in Frankfort. Rice died on April 22, 1962, four days after his 61st birthday, leaving behind a life of service to education, athletics, and his community.
