Al Reynolds was born Albert Solon Reynolds on April 7, 1926, in East Orange, New Jersey, to Dorothy Reynolds and Albert Solon Reynolds, Sr.
Reynolds attended Clifford Scott High School before enrolling at the University of Kentucky in 1944.
Reynolds was listed as a 6-foot, 151-pound forward. He was a member of the Wildcats’ basketball team during the 1945 season, seeing action in only two games. His participation contributed to the team’s efforts during a period when collegiate athletics were resuming normalcy following World War II.
