Brinkley Barnett was born Brinkley Bobbitt Barnett on December 25, 1889, in Somerset, Kentucky to Napoleon Lewis Barnett and Nancy Bobbitt Brinkley Barnett.  His father practiced law and served as county clerk and judge of Pulaski County.  Brinkley was the second to oldest of 8 siblings.

Barnett played basketball at Kentucky.  As a senior, he was captain of the 1912-13 team.  He graduated in 1913 and later studied at the University of Chicago and California Institute of Technology.  After graduating from Kentucky, he worked with General Electric and Western Electric and Telegraph Company.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 7, 1918, and saw action in France during World War I.  After his discharge in 1919, he joined the staff of Centre College as Professor of Physics.  In the fall of 1920, he went to the Engineering Department at Kentucky, from which he retired in 1959 as assistant professor of Electrical Engineering.

Barnett passed away on July 24, 1977 at the age of 87.

On February 18, 1903, State College (Kentucky) records its first win, an 11-10 decision over Lexington YMCA. The Wildcats finished that first season with a 1-2 record.

 

On February 18, 1909, with a 28-23 win over Cincinnati, Kentucky clinched its first winning season in school history. Following a “Senior Day” loss to Central University, the Wildcats ended the year with a 5-4 record.

 

On February 18, 1950, Bill Spivey scored 40 points against Georgia Tech.
