Charles Wright was born Charles Roy Wright on April 11, 1883, in Danville, Kentucky, to James A. Wright and Mary Marple Wright. He grew up in Stanford, Kentucky, and graduated from the Stanford Male Academy in 1901.

Wright enrolled at Kentucky for the fall semester in 1901.  He played in one game for Kentucky in 1904-05.  He graduated from Kentucky in 1905 with a bachelor of civil engineering degree. Immediately after graduating, he accepted a position with the Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern Railroad, in the Division Engineers’ office.

He practiced medicine in Somerset, Kentucky, beginning in 1927 before he enlisted in the Merchant Marine Corps and was stationed in California. He made several trips around the world while serving with the Merchant Marine Corps. He made his home in Los Angeles and practiced medicine there for 15 years.

Wright passed away on November 10, 1952, in San Francisco, at the age of 62.

Walter Cornett, of Glendale, Kentucky, is the owner and operator of Walter’s Wildcat World. He founded WildcatWorld.com in 1998 making it one of the oldest Kentucky basketball fan sites in operation today.

On December 3, 2011, freshman Anthony Davis soared to block John Henson's shot in the final seconds and No. 1 Kentucky held on to beat No. 5 North Carolina 73-72 to extend the Wildcats' home winning streak to 39 games.  Freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Kentucky and Doron Lamb added 12 of his 14 points after halftime in the heavily hyped matchup.
