Gordon George was born Gordon Lee George on April 9, 1912, in Letcher County, Kentucky, to James George and Dockie Loar George.

George was a star basketball player for the Betsy Layne Bobcats before he graduated on May 30, 1930.

George was a member of coach Adolph Rupp’s first team at Kentucky as a freshman in 1930-31.  He saw action in three games as a sophomore in 1931-32.  He was also a member of Sigma Chi, a national social fraternity.

The Kentucky native was employed in the coal industry in Kentucky and West Virginia.

George died on December 12, 1997, in Chattanooga, Tennessee at the age of 85.

Walter Cornett, of Glendale, Kentucky, is the owner and operator of Walter’s Wildcat World. He founded WildcatWorld.com in 1998 making it one of the oldest Kentucky basketball fan sites in operation today.
