Paul Lansaw was born Paul Liberto Lansaw on February 7, 1928, in Middletown, Ohio to Mount Olympus Lansaw and Josephine Vernon.

Lansaw was captain and star of Middletown’s 1946 state basketball championship team.  He played alongside Shelby Linville there.  He was named first-team All-Ohio in both his junior and senior years.  He was also a member of the National Honor Society, won national scholastic honors in painting, was president of his class for two years, was president of the Hi-Y and was voted “Pin-Up Boy of Middletown High School.”

He played two years at Cornell under his old Middie coach, Royner Greene before transferring to Kentucky. He was Cornell’s captain for the 1948-49 season as a junior and was named second-team All-Ivy League.  He scored 278 points in 18 games that season for a 15.4 points per game average despite missing the last 8 games of the season due to an elbow injury.

He played both tennis and basketball at Kentucky in 1950-51.  He was a reserve guard for Coach Adolph Rupp on the 1951 national championship team.  He played in 12 games scoring 11 points on the season.

 

Walter Cornett, of Glendale, Kentucky, is the owner and operator of Walter’s Wildcat World. He founded WildcatWorld.com in 1998 making it one of the oldest Kentucky basketball fan sites in operation today.
