Waller White was born William Waller White on September 15, 1918, in Tyrone, Kentucky to Wesley Oliver White and Margaret “Maggie Mae” Waterfill White.  His father worked for the Southern Railway.  White had two brothers, Cecil and Thomas, and two sisters.

White earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree at the University of Kentucky while playing forward on the basketball team from 1939 to 1942.   He also earned the nickname “Whizzer.”  In the 1939-40 season, he played in 16 games, scored 31 points, and had 45 total points. He started several of the early season games but found himself fighting to regain a place in the lineup as the season went on.  He first was handicapped by an infected foot, then by a shoulder injury, and finally by influenza.  Kentucky won the SEC championship in 1940, beating Georgia, 51-43, and was helped by White’s 11 points.  His performance improved in the following seasons, with 101 points in 1940-41 and 90 points in 1941-42.    On March 2, 1942, White was named to the AP All-SEC second team.

White served in the European theater during World War II in the Air Force then worked in marketing management for 29 years with Gulf Oil Corporation.  He retired in 1974 to River Plantation, Texas, and there enjoyed many years of friends and golfing. He loved volunteering as “Bingo Bill” at MCH and he also enjoyed being a member of the Ukulele Band at First Baptist Church, Conroe, Texas.

White passed away at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas, on February 20, 2007.
