Team Records and Series Notes

• Kentucky is 2-0 on the season while Miami is 0-2.
• Kentucky is 22-4 all-time against Miami and has won 20 in a row.
• Kentucky returns to action against Sam Houston State on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Rupp Arena. The game will be televised by Fox Sports South.

 

First-Half Notes

• Kentucky opened with a lineup of Eric Bledsoe, John Wall, Darius Miller, Patrick Patterson and DeMarcus Cousins.
• Wall sank his first shot as a Wildcat on a three-pointer from the top of the key.
• Trailing 16-14, Miami went on a 16-0 run for a 30-16 lead.
• The RedHawks swished nine of their first 12 three-point attempts, including 5-of-5 by Nick Winbush, and stretched the lead to 18 points at 36-18.
• Kentucky countered with a 15-0 run, coming within 36-33, before Winbush hit his sixth-consecutive three-pointer.
• Darnell Dodson hit his third-straight three to end the first half scoring as the visitors led, 39-36, at intermission.

 

 

 

Second-Half Notes

• Miami spurted to a seven-point lead early in the half, 45-38.
• Kentucky edged to within 52-48, then got a 9-0 run to go ahead 57-52.
• Miami got a four-point play from Kenny Hayes and a three-point shot from Antonio Ballard to tie it at 59. Ballard added a basket/free throw to put the RedHawks ahead 62-61.
• Winbush followed with his eighth three-pointer – setting a Rupp Arena record for most threes by a UK opponent – to give Miami a 65-63 edge.
• Patterson tied it at 65 with foul shots with 2:58 to play.
• Ballard’s free throw at 2:25 put Miami up 66-65.
• Patterson gave UK the lead at 2:07 with a follow-up dunk, 67-66.
• MU’s Julian Mavunga tied it at 67 with 1:47 left on a foul shot.
• Cousins broke the tie with a layup at 1:26, 69-67.
• Wall made a free throw with 19 seconds remaining to up the lead to 70-67.
• Hayes tied it at 70 with a three-pointer with six seconds to go. It was Miami’s 15 th three-pointer of the night, breaking the Rupp Arena opponent record of 14.
• Wall drove the court and hit the game-winner with a 15-foot jumper left of the lane with 0.5 seconds on the clock.

 

Team Notes

• Kentucky used its size advantage to dominate the rebounding, 37-25, leading to a 21-8 edge in second-chance points.
• UK also controlled points in the paint, 32-12.
• Kentucky got double-doubles from Patrick Patterson and DeMarcus Cousins. The last time UK got two double-doubles in a game was Jan. 21, 2009, when Patterson and Perry Stevenson did it against Auburn.
• Miami broke the Rupp Arena opponent record by making 15 three-pointers. The RedHawks hit 15 of 26 beyond the arc. The previous record was 14 by three foes, most recently by Penn State on Nov. 25, 2000.

 

Individual Notes

• John Wall’s first official game in a Kentucky uniform was a night to remember.
  • Made his first shot as a Wildcat, hitting a three-pointer early in the first half.
  • Hit the game-winning shot with less than a second remaining in the game.
  • Led the Wildcats with 19 points, five assists and three steals.
• Patrick Patterson collected a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
  • He has a D-D in both games this season.
  • He has 23 D-Ds in his career.
• Freshman DeMarcus Cousins collected his first collegiate double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
• For Miami, Nick Winbush had a career-high 26 points. His eight three-pointers is a Rupp Arena opponent record. The previous record was seven on five occasions, last by Tennessee’s Chris Lofton on Feb. 7, 2006.
