This question has been raised countless times over the years and The Onion has decided to bring it up again today as part of their piece Our Annual Year: The Top 10 Stories Of The Last 4.5 Billion Years. I have no idea where they came up with these Rupp quotes or whether these is any validity to them because they fail to mention or reference their source. You can read the article yourself and make your own decision. Personally I don't have an opinion about whether Rupp was a rascist or not but I do believe that C.M. Newton provided the best answer: “To put 1997 standards on Coach Rupp during the time that he coached — in the 1930s, 40s, 50s, 60s and a couple of years in the 70s — is totally unfair.” – C.M. Newton, CNNSI, “New Era in Lexington,” October 30, 1997 (From Jon Scott's Big Blue History).
