John Wall

He’s the sure-shot No. 1 player on a surefire No. 1 seed. And soon, John Wall could be the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, a feat—believe it or not—no Kentucky Wildcat has ever pulled off. After leading the Wildcats to their 44th SEC championship and breaking the school’s freshman scoring record, Wall was an easy choice for Sporting News’ Freshman of the Year award.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 18, 1903, State College (Kentucky) records its first win, an 11-10 decision over Lexington YMCA. The Wildcats finished that first season with a 1-2 record.

On February 18, 1909, with a 28-23 win over Cincinnati, Kentucky clinched its first winning season in school history. Following a “Senior Day” loss to Central University, the Wildcats ended the year with a 5-4 record.

On February 18, 1950, Bill Spivey scored 40 points against Georgia Tech.
