That was the season after the UK team known as “Rupp’s Runts” had gone all the way to the NCAA championship game before losing to Texas Western. Although leaders Larry Conley and Tom Kron were gone, the Cats returned three starters, including All-Americans Pat Riley and Louie Dampier.”
