Former University of Florida forward Eloy Vargas will play basketball at Kentucky

I’m late getting this news out because I’ve been on the road but here it is nevertheless. Former University of Florida forward Eloy Vargas is headed to the University of Kentucky.  The 6-foot-11 Vargas visited UK this weekend and will have two years of eligibility remaining to play for the Wildcats. He will be eligible next season and was also considering Seattle, Arizona and North Carolina.  “He’s a highly, highly skilled 6-foot-11 guy,” said Kenny Gillion, Vargas’ former AAU coach. “A lot of schools rolled off of his because of his production at Florida. But a lot of people forget he was hurt during that time. He’s dominated every since he came here from the Dominican.”

On December 17, 2016, No. 6 Kentucky defeated No. 7 North Carolina, 103-100.  Kentucky freshmen Malik Monk (47 points) and De’Aaron Fox (24 points, 10 assists) lit up the Las Vegas Strip as the Wildcats won a run-and-gun affair over Roy Williams’ Tar Heels before 19,298 in T-Mobile Arena.
