Future Cat Kyle Wiltjer adds another honor: Oregon Class 6A Player of the Year

Jesuit senior Kyle Wiltjer had done just about everything a person could in the world of Oregon high school basketball.  League titles. State titles. League player of the year. A scholarship to a major basketball program. But until now, one accolade eluded the 6-foot-10 forward: Class 6A player of the year.  The Kentucky-bound Wiltjer said he was honored to receive the award but that he never focused on it. Instead, he was all about winning state championships, emphasis on the plural.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 14, 1938, Joe Hagan’s 48-foot shot with 12 seconds left lifts the Wildcats over Marquette, 35-33. Then-Kentucky governor A.B. “Happy” Chandler sprinted onto the playing court at the final buzzer and drove a nail into the floor to mark the spot from which “Hagan’s heave” was launched.

 

On February 14, 2009, Jodie Meeks scored 45 points at Arkansas.
