Kentucky ranked second in preseason Coaches’ Poll

Kentucky Video LogoThe UK men’s basketball team checks in at No. 2 in the newly released ESPN/USA Today Coaches preseason Top 25.

 

It marks the third straight season in the John Calipari Era that Kentucky ranks in the top 10 in the coaches’ preseason poll. The Cats checked in at 10th last season and fifth in Calipari’s inaugural year.

 

It also marks the highest preseason ranking in the coach’s poll for the Cats since the 1995-96 team was tabbed No. 1 entering the season.

 

The Wildcats will be in action in the Blue-White scrimmage on Wed., Oct. 26 at Rupp Arena. Tickets for the scrimmage are still available. The cost of the tickets will be $10 and all seating is reserved and no general admission eRUPPtion Zone tickets will be available for this contest. They can be purchased in the same manner as the first three games along with calling the Rupp Arena Box Office (859.233.3535).

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 18, 1903, State College (Kentucky) records its first win, an 11-10 decision over Lexington YMCA. The Wildcats finished that first season with a 1-2 record.

 

On February 18, 1909, with a 28-23 win over Cincinnati, Kentucky clinched its first winning season in school history. Following a “Senior Day” loss to Central University, the Wildcats ended the year with a 5-4 record.

 

On February 18, 1950, Bill Spivey scored 40 points against Georgia Tech.
