Former Cat Rodrick Rhodes feels at home coaching in tiny Cordia, Kentucky

Rodrick RhodesRodrick Rhodes grew up on an asphalt prairie in Jersey City, N.J.  So when the former Kentucky Wildcats and NBA forward shocked the commonwealth’s basketball community last summer by taking a high school head-coaching job at tiny Cordia in Knott County, he was confounded by the twisting roads that wind up and down the Eastern Kentucky mountains.  “He got up here, he was afraid to drive,” said Mitch Smith, Rhodes’ assistant coach at Cordia. “Ask him.”

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On December 2, 1961, Cotton Nash scored 25 points in his first varsity game.  

 

On December 2, 1967, Mike Casey scored 28 points in his very first varsity game.

 

On December 2, 1972, Joe B. Hall coaches his first game as head coach at UK, a 75-66 win at Michigan State. UK goes on to win the SEC Championship and finish 22-8 during Hall’s inaugural season.
