Future Cat Alex Poythress captures Tennessee Class AAA Boys’ Mr. Basketball award

Alex PoythressNortheast basketball star Alex Poythress captured the city’s third straight Mr. Basketball award this afternoon at the conclusion of the boys’ Class AAA state championship game in Murfreesboro.  Poythress is the first from the city to win the award in 3A. Clarksville Academy’s Malcolm Smith won the award the previous two years in Class A.  Poythress led his Eagles to a regular season District 10-AAA championship as well as the district title.

On February 14, 1938, Joe Hagan’s 48-foot shot with 12 seconds left lifts the Wildcats over Marquette, 35-33. Then-Kentucky governor A.B. “Happy” Chandler sprinted onto the playing court at the final buzzer and drove a nail into the floor to mark the spot from which “Hagan’s heave” was launched.

 

On February 14, 2009, Jodie Meeks scored 45 points at Arkansas.
