Northeast basketball star Alex Poythress captured the city’s third straight Mr. Basketball award this afternoon at the conclusion of the boys’ Class AAA state championship game in Murfreesboro. Poythress is the first from the city to win the award in 3A. Clarksville Academy’s Malcolm Smith won the award the previous two years in Class A. Poythress led his Eagles to a regular season District 10-AAA championship as well as the district title.
