Kidd-Gilchrist leads Kentucky to Final Four; named the most outstanding player of the South Regional

REUTERS/Chris Keane (UNITED STATES  - Tags: SPORT BASKETBALL)Kentucky is headed back to the Final Four.  Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 19 points and Anthony Davis added 18 as the Wildcats defeated Baylor, 82-70, in front of 24,035 in Sunday’s South Regional final at the Georgia Dome.  As a result, top-seeded Kentucky (36-2) advanced to its second consecutive Final Four and 15th overall. It will play in-state rival and West Regional winner Louisville on Saturday in a national semifinal in New Orleans.

On April 14, 2024, Mark Pope, a captain of the University of Kentucky’s 1996 National Championship team, is introduced as Kentucky’s new head basketball coach to a crowd of more than 15,000 fans inside of Rupp Arena. Pope replaces John Calipari, who left after 15 seasons at the helm of Kentucky basketball to become the head coach at Arkansas.
