Kentucky remains out of AP Top 25; receives fewer votes this week than last week

Kentucky dropped out of the AP Top 25 the week of December 3 after consecutive losses to Notre Dame and Baylor.  That week it received a total of 186 points.  This week it remained out of the AP Top 25 and received even fewer votes than it did last week, despite two home wins against Samford and Portland. This weeks vote total was only 44 points.  Now I realize that wins over Samford and Portland are nothing to brag about but a 142 point drop is pretty substantial.  I know…rankings don’t mean anything. Wait ’til March.  See AP poll here.

Walter Cornett, of Glendale, Kentucky, is the owner and operator of Walter’s Wildcat World. He founded WildcatWorld.com in 1998 making it one of the oldest Kentucky basketball fan sites in operation today.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On December 1, 1950, UK plays its first game in the new, $3.9 million, 11,500-seat Memorial Coliseum. Skeptics label the building a “white elephant.”  The Wildcats made the first game played in Memorial Coliseum a memorable one as they routed the West Texas State Buffaloes.

On December 1, 2011, Kentucky blocked 18 St. John's shots for the most blocks ever recorded by a Kentucky team.
