The 1978 National Championship team is honored at Rupp Arena on the 35th anniversary of their championship.  That roster included:

Jack Givens, Rick Robey, Kyle Macy,  James Lee, Mike Phillips, Truman Claytor, Jay Shidler, Chuck Aleksinas, Lavon Williams, Fred Cowan, Dwane Casey, Tim Stephens, Scott Courts, Chris Gettelfinger

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On December 29, 1986, following the Wildcats’ 85-51 win at Louisville on Dec. 27, more than 19,000 fans filled Freedom Hall for a Kentucky practice to usher in the era of school-boy legend Rex Chapman.

 

On December 29, 2001, No. 6 Kentucky defeated Louisville, 82-62.  A Rupp Arena crowd of 24,330 was calling for vengeance when former UK Coach Rick Pitino returned to Lexington for the first time as head coach of the Cardinals. Tayshaun Prince (18 points) and Keith Bogans (17) led a dismantling of Pitino’s overmatched team.

 

On December 29, 2009, freshman point guard John Wall set a school record with 16 assists as Kentucky crushed Hartford 104-61.

 

On December 29, 2016, freshman Malik Monk scored 34 points at Ole Miss.
