Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins make final Team USA’s World Cup team

Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins and the rest of Team USA will begin its FIBA World Cup play on Aug. 30 against Finland.

A quarter of the United States national team that will represent America at the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain is made up of former John Calipari players.

Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins and Derrick Rose all made the final 12-man roster for Team USA. The final cuts were made late Friday night after the United States’ exhibition victory over Puerto Rico.

Davis, Cousins, Rose and the rest of Team USA will begin its FIBA World Cup play on Aug. 30 against Finland. Prior to that, the U.S. has one more exhibition game, scheduled for Tuesday against Slovenia at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On April 1, 1996, behind an NCAA title game record-tying seven three-pointers from Tony Delk, UK won its sixth national title. After two John Wallace free throws cut the UK lead to two, 64-62, the Wildcats responded with a Walter McCarty tip-in and a Derek Anderson three-pointer and Syracuse never threatened again.  Kentucky wins, 76-67.

 

On April 1, 2009, John Calipari was named Kentucky’s new head basketball coach.  His deal worth $31.65 million made him the highest-paid coach in college basketball.
