Kentucky rolls past Clarion in exhibition

Six Kentucky players scored in double figures as the Wildcats raced by Clarion University 108-51 in an exhibition in Rupp Arena Sunday.

Malik Monk scored 15 points, and each added 13 and rolled past Clarion 108-51 in an exhibition Sunday night against Wildcats coach ‘s alma mater.

De’Aaron and each added 12 points as the Wildcats’ latest highly touted freshman class debuted. Sophomore had 11 points and 11 assists in a game that was interesting early before Kentucky’s talent quickly ran away and built a lead as large as 57 points against the Golden Eagles.

Besides making 6 of 9 from the field, Adebayo grabbed 14 rebounds and had a block for Kentucky, which shot 61 percent. , the coach’s son, added a couple of late 3-pointers on four attempts while freshman Wenyan Gabriel had nine points.

B.J. Andrews scored 16 points for Clarion, which shot 30 percent and was outrebounded 51-28.

Kentucky hosts Asbury in its final exhibition next Sunday.

On March 24, 1947, before a Madison Square Garden record crowd of 18,493, Wat Misaka held Ralph Beard to two points and Utah ended the Wildcats’ bid for back-to-back NIT Championships.

 

On March 24, 1951, No. 1 Kentucky defeated No. 5 Illinois in the 1951 NCAA Final Four.  After UK standouts Bill Spivey and Cliff Hagan fouled out, Shelby Linville, a 6-foot-5 junior, scored Kentucky’s final six points, including the game-winning basket on a layup with 12 seconds left before 16,425 in the old Madison Square Garden in New York City.

 

On March 24, 2017, in a highly anticipated matchup with UCLA, which beat the Wildcats in the regular season in Rupp Arena, freshman point guard De’Aaron Fox scores an NCAA Tournament freshman record 39 points to propel UK to the Elite Eight.
