Eloy Vargas was born December 30, 1988, in the Dominican Republic to Ana Julia Vargas and Eloy Camacho Lantigua.

Vargas played at Kentucky from 2010-2012.  He was a member of the 2012 national championship team.

In high school, Vargas was ranked as the No. 26 prospect in the nation according to Rivals.com and No. 33 according to Scout.com.  He averaged 21 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks while leading American Heritage High School to an 18-9 record as a senior during the 2007-08 season.  Vargas achieved two program milestones during his stay, scoring a single-game record of 40 points during the 2007 season and registering a triple-double with 20 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 blocks in a contest during the 2008 campaign.  He claimed First-Team All-County and Second-Team All-State as a junior.  Vargas averaged 21.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, and four blocks during his junior season.

Vargas started his college career at Florida in 2008-09. He averaged 0.6 points and 0.7 rebounds with five blocks in nine appearances as a Gator.  Vargas missed the first 11 games of the season while recovering from off-season ankle surgery.  He played a career-high 11 minutes against Jacksonville in the first round of the NIT, recording one rebound and a block.

Vargas transferred to Miami-Dade College for his sophomore season where he averaged 21.1 points and 14.1 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free-throw line.  He received All-America honors and conference player of the year accolades.

As a junior at Kentucky, Vargas played in all 38 games, averaging 1.5 points per game and 2.0 rebounds per game.  He pulled down five rebounds in the Final Four against UConn.  Vargas made an impact in the win over Florida in the SEC Tournament championship with two points and four rebounds in 10 minutes of action.  He totaled a career-high eight pts. and three blocks in a win over Winthrop and tied a career-high with six rebounds in 10 minutes of action against Mississippi Valley State.

In the summer before his senior season, Vargas traveled to China with Sports Reach USA.  He also worked out with the Dominican Republic national team.

As a senior, Vargas played in 33 of UK’s 40 games and logged 56 rebounds on the year.  He saw action in UK’s NCAA Tournament victories over WKU, Indiana, Baylor, and Louisville on the way to the national championship.  He played 16 minutes while grabbing five rebounds in a win on Senior Night against Georgia.  Vargas pulled down seven rebounds in a season-high 17 minutes of action against Samford.  He posted UK’s final two blocks to set the new single-game team record for blocks while also adding three points and three rebounds in a win over St. John’s. Vargas matched a career-high with eight rebounds to go along with a pair of blocks in a win over Penn State
