Arkansas has fired coach John Pelphrey after four seasons with the Razorbacks, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com Sunday.  The Hogs will make a formal announcement later in the day.  Arkansas finished fourth in the SEC West. Pelphrey has three years remaining on his contract and will be paid a negotiated buyout.  Pelphrey,…

Kentucky falls to Arkansas in overtime

Brandon Knight

Marcus Britt’s layup in the final minute of overtime lifted Arkansas to a 77-76 win over No. 22 Kentucky on Wednesday night. The Razorbacks trailed 76-75 in the extra period, and the Wildcats had possession. However, Jeff Peterson stole an errant Kentucky pass and found Britt at the other end of the court for the game-winning layup. Arkansas (17-9, 6-6 Southeastern Conference) improved to 1-3 in overtime this season and gave coach John Pelphrey his first win in four chances against his alma mater.

Former Cat John Pelphrey saves job with elite recruits

John Pelphrey

There are two sure-bet ways for a college coach to keep his job. One is to produce wins. The other is to create hope. In a perfect world, a coach will do both — win at a high level so the present is great while recruiting at a high level so the future also looks terrific. Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, Ohio State’s Thad Matta and Villanova’s Jay Wright are a few who meet both criteria.

Demarcus Cousins takes shot to mouth, breaks front teeth

It takes a lot to rattle — or knock out — Kentucky freshman DeMarcus Cousins. He took an elbow to the mouth from Arkansas guard Courtney Fortson less than two minutes into Saturday’s game here that appeared to break off part of his two front teeth. However, less than two minutes later he was back…

Undefeated and against the world: Cats get defensive to prove they’re No. 1

As Josh Harrellson put the finishing touches of a 101-70 rout of Arkansas with a leaning layup in the final few seconds of Saturday’s victory at Rupp Arena – the 19th straight victory to start the season – DeMarcus Cousins raised up from the bench, waved his hands in the air and flashed his million-dollar…

After long wait, Kentucky Wildcats rise back to top

This article was written by Pat Forde of ESPN.com.  I sat next to him in the media room at the post-Arkansas press conference.  He’s taller in person than he looks on the internet.  From Mr. Forde, “Welcome back, Kentucky. Where you been all this time? Unless we have a ballot-rigging that would horrify even Chicago…

Cats look like No. 1 in win over Razorbacks

Now that looked like the No. 1 team in the country. In a game where UK could easily have overlooked its opponent, let another sharpshooter go off on their home floor or let a former Cat come home and earn a career defining win as a coach, the Cats did what they do best: win.…

Kentucky cruises past Arkansas 101-70

Less than three months into his first season coaching the nation’s all-time winningest program, John Calipari is poised to make good on his pledge to return Kentucky basketball to “its rightful place at the top of the mountain.” Any old win Saturday likely would have restored No. 2 Kentucky to the top of The Associated…
