Deandre Liggins emerges for much-needed win

Deandre Liggins

John Calipari had been asking, begging and pleading for a few good veterans for the last couple of weeks. He got two very good ones to step up Tuesday night to end the Kentucky men’s basketball team’s current skid. Junior guard DeAndre Liggins tied a career high with 19 points and senior forward Josh Harrellson added another 16 as the Cats ended the first two-game losing streak of head coach John Calipari’s UK career with a 73-61 victory over Tennessee.

Cats crush Vols in Pearl’s return to bench, 73-61

DeAndre Liggins tied a career-high with 19 points and No. 18 Kentucky ruined Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl’s return to the bench with a 73-61 victory on Tuesday night. Pearl, suspended for Tennessee’s first eight conference games by SEC commissioner Mike Slive as punishment…

After rallying to take a one-point lead thanks in large part to the inspired play of freshman forward Terrence Jones, who made four clutch free throws late…

Deandre Liggins the ‘main part’ of Cats first SEC road win

As vital as Devan Downey’s offense was in South Carolina’s 68-62 upset over the newly-anointed No. 1 Cats last year, DeAndre Liggins’ shut-down defense was just as important in keying the Cats’ 67-58 victory in UK’s first game in Colonial Life Arena since last year’s upset. The role of defensive stopper isn’t something new to Liggins (nor is it usually particularly popular among players) but his value in such a role can’t be understated on a youthful team that has had a tendency to take plays off during stretches of time.
