Happy Birthday to former Cat Bob Guyette!

Robert “Bob” Guyette was born August 29, 1953 in Ottawa, Illinois. He was Mr. Basketball in the state of Illinois in 1971. Bob was a 6'9″, 215 pound center that played for the University of in 1972, 1973 and 1974. He was a member of the 1975 team, coined the “Super Kittens” which consisted of Jimmy Dan Conner, , Mike Flynn, Steve Lochmueller, Jerry Hale and GJ Smith, that reached the national championship game only to lose to UCLA. Guyette scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in that game against a Bruins front line that featured Dave Meyers, Marques Johnson and Richard Washington. He earned Academic All-American and Academic All-SEC in 1973-74 and was an Academic All-American in 1974-1975. He averaged just over 9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game over his career at Kentucky and shot an amazing 68% from the field as a career average.

He was drafted by Kansas City as the 49th pick in the 3rd round of the 1975 NBA Draft. After a five-year professional basketball career in Europe (Spain) during which he invested his earnings into duplexes back home in Lexington, he returned to the University of Kentucky where he received his dental degree and was valedictorian of his class. Dr. Guyette then obtained his medical degree with high honors from the University of Alabama and followed with an internship in General Surgery. His residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery included focused training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgery.

 

Dr. Guyette has conducted research and published articles on Facial Surgery relating to the treatment of Sleep Apnea, Facial Injuries and has given numerous national presentations in the area of Facial Cosmetic Surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Guyette is married, has three sons and is actively involved in community and national organizations. He has served as a member of the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners and is a practicing physician in Phoenix, Arizona at the Guyette Facial and Oral Surgery Center.
