Late surge boosts Kentucky past Tennessee 73-62

After missing two 3-point attempts in the first half, Kentucky freshman Eric Bledsoe told coach John Calipari he had lost confidence in his shot.  Calipari’s message, to Bledsoe’s surprise: Keep shooting, anyway.  Bledsoe’s second half resurgence, along with yet another stellar performance by fellow freshman guard John Wall, helped No. 3 Kentucky fight off No. 12 Tennessee for a 73-62 victory Saturday night.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On January 27, 1968, at the time, it was believed that Adolph Rupp became college basketball’s all-time winningest coach when the Wildcats overcame a record-setting 52-point performance by LSU’s Pete Maravich to defeat the Tigers, 121-95. Years later, it was discovered that he had achieved that feat on Feb. 18, 1967, with a 103-74 win over Mississippi State.

 

On January 27, 2018, freshman Kevin Knox scored 34 points at West Virginia.
