John Wall named District Player of the Year by the USBWA

Kentucky freshman John Wall has been named District IV Player of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers’ Association, and UK coach John Calipari has been named the District Coach of the Year.  District IV consists of Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida, and the All-District team is the result of a vote of USBWA members in those states.  UK’s DeMarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson joined Wall on the All-District team.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 7, 1970, Dan Issel made 23 field goals against Ole Miss for the most field goals made in a single game by a Kentucky player.

 

On February 7, 1970, Dan Issel scored 53 points in a 120-85 victory over Ole Miss. He didn't miss a shot from the free-throw line, going 7-of-7 while shooting a mind-blowing 23-of-34 from the field that night.  Issel also snagged 19 rebounds.
