Kentucky freshmen lead AP All-America team

 

‘s and are the first freshmen teammates to be selected to The Associated Press’ All-America team.  The other players on the team announced Monday are Ohio State junior Evan Turner, Syracuse junior Wes Johnson and Villanova senior Scottie Reynolds.  This is the third time in four years two freshmen were on the team. Wall and Cousins are the ninth set of teammates. The last All-America teammates were Duke’s J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams in 2006.  Turner received all but one first-team vote. The 6-foot-7 point guard averaged 20.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists to lead the voting by the 65-member national media panel. Voting was done before the NCAA tournament.

On January 13, 2009, Jodie Meeks scored 54 points at Tennessee in a 90-72 victory for the most points in a single game by a Kentucky player. Meeks played 39 minutes and went 15-of-22 from the field, including 10-of-15 from behind the arc. He also didn't miss from the free-throw line, where he went 14-of-14.  He also hauled in eight rebounds and kicked out four assists.  The 54 points by Meeks was also the most points scored in an SEC game since Chris Jackson from LSU tallied 55 against Ole Miss in 1989.
