It was the kind of game UK might not have won in January, that gritty, comeback win against West Virginia.  Not when they didn’t value the importance of every possession, no matter the stage of the game.  “We let certain balls get away,” Brandon Knight said of the team’s play earlier in the season. “I think going through those times helped us, let us know, that key possession could have won us that game if you would have got us. Now guys are going after that, like, this could be the game winner.”

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 18, 1903, State College (Kentucky) records its first win, an 11-10 decision over Lexington YMCA. The Wildcats finished that first season with a 1-2 record.

 

On February 18, 1909, with a 28-23 win over Cincinnati, Kentucky clinched its first winning season in school history. Following a “Senior Day” loss to Central University, the Wildcats ended the year with a 5-4 record.

 

On February 18, 1950, Bill Spivey scored 40 points against Georgia Tech.
