From The Season Never Ends 2011 Calendar: “On July 30, 1948, the United States Olympic team kicked off the round robin portion of their schedule with an 86-21 victory over Switzerland. Four Kentucky players scored, including Alex Groza with 19, Wah Wah Jones with eight, Ralph Beard six and Cliff Barker with 5.

Walter Cornett, of Glendale, Kentucky, is the owner and operator of Walter’s Wildcat World. He founded WildcatWorld.com in 1998 making it one of the oldest Kentucky basketball fan sites in operation today.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 18, 1903, State College (Kentucky) records its first win, an 11-10 decision over Lexington YMCA. The Wildcats finished that first season with a 1-2 record.

 

On February 18, 1909, with a 28-23 win over Cincinnati, Kentucky clinched its first winning season in school history. Following a “Senior Day” loss to Central University, the Wildcats ended the year with a 5-4 record.

 

On February 18, 1950, Bill Spivey scored 40 points against Georgia Tech.
