Kentucky seeks revenge for 1952

Kentucky vs. St. Johns 1952After winning the NCAA Championship in 1951, the Cats were feeling great about themselves in 1952.  Adolph Rupp had the number one team in both AP and UPI. UK was undefeated in the SEC and finished the season at 29-3. They were led by All-Americans Frank Ramsey and Cliff Hagan.  Kentucky opened up the NCAA tournament by blowing out Penn State 82-54. Next up was St. John’s who had never made it to the Final Four. Plus, UK destroyed St. John’s 81-40 earlier in the season.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On December 9, 1964, Louie Dampier scored 37 points against Iowa State.

 

On December 9, 1978, after forcing overtime, the Cats were down 66-60 with 31 seconds to go. Back-to-back baskets by freshman Dwight Anderson cut the lead to two before he stole the inbounds pass and fed Kyle Macy for the tying jumper. Macy completed the comeback by adding a technical free throw when Kansas called a timeout it didn't have.
