Anthony Davis named SEC Player of the Week

Anthony Davis - photo by Regina Rickert | WildcatWorld.com freshman was named the Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday and .com co-National Player of the Week.  Davis, a 6-foot-10, 222-pound freshman forward from Chicago, Ill., was named SEC Player of the Week after averaging 20 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.5 blocks and two assists in wins over and at . Davis posted 15 blocks on the week, including eight blocks against South Carolina. He pushed his season total to 116, breaking Shaquille O’Neal’s SEC freshman record for blocks in a season. He now ranks ninth on the league’s single-season blocks list. Davis leads the nation in blocks and has more rejections than eight other schools in the league. He missed only two shots on the week, shooting 88.2 percent from the field.  The conference award is Davis’ fourth this season and the sixth for the Wildcats this season.
