Five years removed from a University of Kentucky playing career that culminated with his second-round NBA draft selection, Jodie Meeks returned to the interview table Thursday at Memorial Coliseum with perspective on the Wildcats' program.
“It's come a long way from the Billy Gillispie days,” Meeks said. Then he smiled. “Don't quote me on that.”
Meeks, coming off his best NBA season, knows by now that he won't get away with that in a press conference setting. He's got more important concerns these days — first, participation in graduation ceremonies this week at UK.
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard has come back to Lexington each summer since he left after three years of college to finish his degree in business marketing.
