Sean Woods will be always bleed blue, no matter the color of his shirt, pants or shoes thanks to his mother’s side of the family who have lived their entire lives in Lexington.

After many years of dribbling a basketball, he has now has become a mentor to the young men in Morehead who wants to be a part of basketball history in the state of Kentucky.

Woods was the guest speaker at Tuesday’s Maysville Rotary meeting. He is preparing for success in his third season as the basketball coach at Morehead State. Before Woods talked about his life as a coach at Morehead, he gave the people, many of whom were Morehead State alums, insight on what it was like to be a Kentucky Wildcat.

To start things off, he thanked his former teammate and roommate Deron Feldhaus for all he has done for him. During his years at Kentucky, Rick Pitino was the head coach and Pitino was the cause of Feldhaus and Woods rooming together on campus.

On February 14, 1938, Joe Hagan’s 48-foot shot with 12 seconds left lifts the Wildcats over Marquette, 35-33. Then-Kentucky governor A.B. “Happy” Chandler sprinted onto the playing court at the final buzzer and drove a nail into the floor to mark the spot from which “Hagan’s heave” was launched.

 

On February 14, 2009, Jodie Meeks scored 45 points at Arkansas.
