SEC Clarification Eases One Concern for Mark Mitchell
The SEC clarified Wednesday that its new policy restricting some former professional athletes from returning to college competition would not, by itself, make Kentucky newcomer Mark Mitchell ineligible. Mitchell participated in NBA Summer League but did not sign an NBA contract, placing his circumstances outside the category the league said it intended to prohibit. His separate fifth-year eligibility case and intraconference-transfer questions remain unresolved.

Ousmane N’Diaye’s Eligibility Stands Out After NCAA Ruling on Utah Recruit
The NCAA has ruled Utah international recruit Noam Yaacov ineligible for the 2026-27 season, a development notable for Kentucky because his professional background bears similarities to that of Wildcats newcomer Ousmane N’Diaye. N’Diaye, however, went through Kentucky’s eligibility review earlier in the offseason and received clearance to play, leaving the Wildcats in a considerably better position than Utah now finds itself.
Darryl Bishop Celebrates His 76th Birthday
Former Kentucky guard Darryl Bishop turns 76 today. Born Aug. 27, 1950, in Louisville, Bishop played for Kentucky during the 1971-72 season under Adolph Rupp after starring at Seneca High School.
On This Date: Joe Crawford Signed With the Los Angeles Lakers
On Aug. 27, 2008, former Kentucky guard Joe Crawford signed with the Los Angeles Lakers after being selected with the 58th pick of that year’s NBA Draft. Crawford had completed a four-year Kentucky career in which he scored 1,438 points and earned Second Team All-SEC honors as a senior. The Lakers waived him during the preseason on Oct. 22.
