SEC Says It Will Honor Court Orders in Eligibility Cases
The SEC has indicated that it will comply with court orders protecting athletes involved in the growing fifth-year eligibility fight, an important development for Kentucky newcomer Mark Mitchell. The clarification means schools acting under a valid court order would not automatically face conference penalties simply for rostering an affected athlete, although Mitchell’s separate intraconference-transfer issue has not been fully resolved.

Wildcat Birthday: William Blanton Was Born 122 Years Ago Today
Former Kentucky forward [William Blanton] was born Aug. 30, 1904, in Richmond, Kentucky. Blanton played for the Wildcats during the 1922–23 season and later became a prominent figure on campus, eventually serving as president of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association in 1939.

On This Date: Renovated Memorial Coliseum Reopened to Fans
On Aug. 30, 2024, fans returned to Historic Memorial Coliseum for the first time following the building’s $82 million renovation, with Kentucky volleyball christening the refurbished arena that evening. For Kentucky basketball historians, the building remains sacred ground: the men’s Wildcats called Memorial Coliseum home from 1950 through 1976 and compiled a 307–38 record there, with the program’s 1951 and 1958 national championship teams among those that played in the arena.
