David Miller was born on February 27, 1954, in Carrollton, Kentucky.  He was a forward for the University of Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team during the early 1970s. Standing 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 205 pounds, he played for the Wildcats in the 1972–73 and 1973–74 seasons.

Before joining Kentucky, Miller was a standout player at Carroll County High School in Carrollton, Kentucky. In his senior year, he led the team to the Sweet Sixteen, scoring 38 points and grabbing 25 rebounds in the regional final. He averaged 25.7 ppg and 18 rebounds, hitting 57 percent from the field and 80 percent from the charity stripe.  He was named All-State.  Miller played in the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star game and led the West All-Stars with 23 points in Kentucky’s All-Star game. He lettered three times in basketball and once in football and was captain of the basketball team in ‘71-72.

Miller committed to play for Kentucky by signing a grant-in-aid, with Coach Joe B. Hall in attendance, on April 19, 1972.

As a freshman at Kentucky, Miller averaged 15.5 points and 12.8 rebounds per game for the freshmen squad but only saw 2 minutes of action with the varsity.

As a sophomore, Miller played in 10 games scoring 9 points on the season.  At the end of the season, unhappy about lack of playing time, Miller announced he would be transferring from Kentucky to Marshall.

Miller transferred to Marshall University, where he continued his basketball career, averaging 14.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, and graduated in 1976.

Miller dedicated 30 years to coaching basketball at Carroll County High School. He announced his resignation as head coach in March 2008, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
