Kentucky edges Vanderbilt in Senior Night thriller
Brandon Knight scored 17 points and No. 20 Kentucky finally found a way to win a close game, edging No. 21 Vanderbilt 68-66 on Tuesday night. Terrence Jones added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats (21-8, 9-6 Southeastern Conference), who remained unbeaten at Rupp Arena under coach John Calipari. Festus Ezeli led the Commodores (21-8, 9-6) with 22 points but fumbled away a chance at a game-tying shot just before the final buzzer.

The Wildcats continued their winning streak at home, pushing their consecutive games won at home to 33, including 32 straight in Rupp Arena with a 76-68 win against 13th-ranked Florida. Darius Miller tallied a career-high 24 points to go along with five rebounds, three blocks and three assists. Joining Miller in double-figures were, Brandon Knight (16) and Doron Lamb (14). Knight stretched his streak of consecutive games scoring in double-digits to 23.

A pair of teammates – Duke’s Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith – and a pair of freshmen – Kentucky’s Terrence Jones and Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger – are among the ten players selected to appear on the ballot. BYU’s Jimmer Fredette is the lone returning player of the year finalist from a year ago. Other finalists include Big 12 standouts Jordan Hamilton of Texas and Marcus Morris of Kansas, as well as Purdue’s JaJuan Johnson, Connecticut’s Kemba Walker and Arizona’s Derrick Williams.
Brandon Knight named SEC Freshman of the Week
Kentucky’s Brandon Knight was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 21.0 points, 5.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in games against Arkansas and Florida. Knight recorded his UK freshman record 12th 20-point game with a career-high 26 points at Arkansas while also pulling down a career-best eight rebounds. He averaged 5.5 assists on the week and is averaging 6.8 over the last four games. His three 3-pointers on the week put him one-shy of the UK freshman record for 3-pointers in a season with 67. This is his 5th award of the like this year.
