Inside Vanderbilt’s Memorial Gymnasium, the drops thumped away like a drumline, perhaps a subtle suggestion that time marched on that night. Rupp waited out of sight during warmups as nervous as when he had coached his first game against Georgetown College 42 years earlier. He would describe that pregame feeling often, like a sudden hook to the belly.

Kentucky’s 2,000th victory looked awfully familiar. DeMarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson scored 18 points apiece and the third-ranked Wildcats became the first team in NCAA history to reach the 2,000-win plateau with an 88-44 romp over Drexel on Monday night.

Balanced attack leads Kentucky past MVSU, 85-60
Terrence Jones scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half and No. 17 Kentucky rolled past Mississippi Valley State 85-60 Saturday night. Doron Lamb and DeAndre Liggins scored 16 points apiece for the Wildcats (8-2), who played the last 6:26 without coach John Calipari, who got his first career ejection after picking up two technical fouls while arguing with officials.

Joe B. Hall reunion and recognition ceremony scheduled for Saturday night
Saturday’s game will feature a reunion of over 40 former players to honor Joe B. Hall. The ceremony will celebrate Hall’s career, which included a national championship and three Final Four appearances, and coincides with the 25th anniversary of his retirement.
Doron Lamb: A kid from the borough
The kid was only 5 years old, but he could dribble a basketball and shoot it. There’d been a ball in Doron Lamb’s hands since he was 2 years old, so his knack for the game was no surprise, but his mother couldn’t help but marvel at how confident he looked on the court one particular day in Brooklyn, N.Y. “He was 5 years old playing with 15-year-olds, and he really thought, ‘We’re all equals here,’ ” Brigitte Grant said. “It was really funny.”
Three future Cats in running for Naismith Player of the Year
Three highly touted high school basketball players that have signed to play at Kentucky next year are finalists for the Naismith Player of the Year award. Anthony Davis, Michael Gilchrist and Marquis Teague, all of whom have signed nationall letters of intent with UK, made the 10-player watch list for the award. The watch list was comprised by leading basketball journalists from around the country who form the national voting academy and identify players under consideration for the award.
