Big Brother, indeed. Eddie Sutton proclaimed Kentucky the “Big Brother” of this rivalry and, as in the Orwellian vision, “Big Brother” was everywhere yesterday in smashing Louisville 85-51. How all-encompassing was it? The defeat was Louisville’s worst since Feb. 13, 1956 (Xavier 99, U of L 59). It was Louisville coach Denny Crum’s worst, period. An 86-64 loss to North Carolina on Dec. 29, 1980, was his previous nadir.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On December 1, 1950, UK plays its first game in the new, $3.9 million, 11,500-seat Memorial Coliseum. Skeptics label the building a “white elephant.”  The Wildcats made the first game played in Memorial Coliseum a memorable one as they routed the West Texas State Buffaloes.

 

On December 1, 2011, Kentucky blocked 18 St. John's shots for the most blocks ever recorded by a Kentucky team.
