Terrence Jones, Doron Lamb lead Kentucky over WKU, 81-66

Terrence Jones - photo by Andy Lyons | GettyTerrence Jones had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Doron Lamb scored 16 and top-seeded Kentucky began its quest for an eighth national title with a staggering display of athleticism in an 81-66 victory over Western Kentucky on Thursday night.  On a day when Syracuse nearly became the first No. 1 seed ever to lose to a 16, the Wildcats (33-2) are clearly relishing their growing role as favorites.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 14, 1938, Joe Hagan’s 48-foot shot with 12 seconds left lifts the Wildcats over Marquette, 35-33. Then-Kentucky governor A.B. “Happy” Chandler sprinted onto the playing court at the final buzzer and drove a nail into the floor to mark the spot from which “Hagan’s heave” was launched.

 

On February 14, 2009, Jodie Meeks scored 45 points at Arkansas.
