Kentucky’s thoroughbreds find their stride, pick up the pace

Marquis Teague - photo by Jonathan Daniel | GettyJohn Calipari made sure his team heard about it.  Following Kentucky’s semifinal win over Florida in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, Patric Young said that his Gators had intentionally picked up the pace against the Wildcats because they saw an opportunity.  “It started wearing the guys out a lot because we don’t think they’re in the best of shape,” Young said. “It showed, because we were able to stay in the game.”  Not in the best of shape?

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 14, 1938, Joe Hagan’s 48-foot shot with 12 seconds left lifts the Wildcats over Marquette, 35-33. Then-Kentucky governor A.B. “Happy” Chandler sprinted onto the playing court at the final buzzer and drove a nail into the floor to mark the spot from which “Hagan’s heave” was launched.

 

On February 14, 2009, Jodie Meeks scored 45 points at Arkansas.
