John Pelphrey Comes Home to Kentucky as Director of Player Development

Former Kentucky standout is returning to Lexington as director of player development on ‘s staff, a UK men’s basketball spokesperson confirmed Friday. One of Kentucky’s celebrated “Unforgettables,” Pelphrey brings extensive coaching experience after head-coaching stops at South Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee Tech, along with assistant-coaching tenures at Florida and Alabama.

Wildcat World angle: Pelphrey played for Kentucky from 1987-92 and helped lead the program through one of the most important rebuilding periods in its history. More than three decades later, he returns to help develop another generation of Wildcats.

Big Blue Madness Takes Center Stage Tonight at Rupp Arena

Kentucky officially raises the curtain on the 2026-27 basketball season tonight with at , beginning at 7 p.m. ET and streaming on SEC Network+. Tickets disappeared in only 22 minutes, and the event gives Big Blue Nation its first full-scale public look at Mark Pope’s third Kentucky team.

Five-Star DeMarcus Henry Schedules Kentucky Official Visit

Kentucky’s run of high-profile 2027 visits will continue Monday when five-star wing DeMarcus Henry is scheduled to begin an official visit to Lexington. The 6-foot-7 Henry is regarded as one of the top prospects in the class and will give Pope and his staff another opportunity to build momentum with an elite 2027 target immediately after Big Blue Madness weekend.

Why it matters: Kentucky already has Ryan Hampton committed for 2027 and has recently brought Reese Alston, Paul Osaruyi and CJ Rosser to campus. Henry’s visit extends an unusually concentrated stretch of face-to-face work with some of the class’s premier prospects.

CJ Rosser Gets Kentucky’s Full Big Blue Madness Treatment

Five-star 2027 forward CJ Rosser is in Lexington for his official visit, putting one of Kentucky’s most important recruiting targets inside Rupp Arena for tonight’s Big Blue Madness. The 6-foot-10 Rosser has narrowed his recruitment to Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisville, Miami, NC State, North Carolina and USC, making this weekend an important opportunity for Pope and his staff.

Why it matters: Madness is traditionally one of Kentucky’s strongest recruiting showcases, combining the program’s history, fan support and Rupp Arena atmosphere in a single weekend. Rosser is among the highest-rated players Kentucky is pursuing in the 2027 class.

Kentucky Extends Madness Weekend With Fan Fest and Rupp Practice

The opening weekend of Kentucky basketball will continue Saturday with the BBN United Fan Fest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Central Bank Center. The event will include appearances, interviews and autograph opportunities involving Kentucky players, coaches and alumni, followed by a members-only men’s basketball practice at Rupp Arena at 8 p.m.

Wildcat World angle: With Pope shelving the traditional Blue-White Game for this season, Saturday night’s practice provides another early opportunity to see the 2026-27 Wildcats on the Rupp Arena floor before exhibition play begins Oct. 16.
