Terrence Jones named SEC Freshman of the Week

The SEC named Kentucky forward Terrence Jones its Freshman of the Week for last week. Jones averaged a double-double last week with 17.5 points and 10.0 rebounds last week. He tied a season-high with four blocks against Tennessee. He scored a team-high 25 points at Vanderbilt and has scored in double-figures in four straight games and 16 of his last 17 games.

Would you believe me if I told you that Kentucky lost a tight game on the road? For the fifth time in six road games in the SEC, No. 18 Kentucky (17-7, 5-5) lost a close game away from home. This time, John Jenkins and No. 23 Vanderbilt (18-6, 6-4) dropped UK 81-77. Jenkins, the SEC’s leading scorer, scored a career-high 32 points off 6-10 shooting from beyond the arc.

John Jenkins scored a career-high 32 points, hitting six 3-pointers, to lift No. 23 Vanderbilt to an 81-77 victory over No. 18 Kentucky on Saturday. With the win, the Commodores (18-6, 6-4) swept a three-game homestand that will keep them tied for second in the Southeastern Conference’s Eastern Division. They came into Saturday tied with Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee, two losses behind Florida.

He got two very good ones to step up Tuesday night to end the Kentucky men’s basketball team’s current skid. Eloy Vargas has been a punching bag for criticism this year because of his timid play, but the junior forward provided the Cats with 14 big minutes Saturday. He only logged two points, four rebounds and one assist, but he filled in admirably for Harrellson while he sat on the bench in foul trouble. Vargas won’t be pleased with a loss, but he can take consolation in the fact that he played well in his return to Florida, where he played at his freshman year.
