A record was smashed on this date in Kentucky basketball history…

On this date in 2012, Anthony Davis had a career-high 27 points with 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots. His seven blocks put him at 89 for the year to break the mark previously held by Andre Riddick (1993-94) and Melvin Turpin (1982-83), who needed 34 and 31 games to get to 83 blocks, respectively. Anthony Davis was selected by ESPN as the Player of the Night for his record breaking accomplishment. The photo you see below was the block which broke the record. Davis finished the season with a new record of 186 blocks.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 18, 1903, State College (Kentucky) records its first win, an 11-10 decision over Lexington YMCA. The Wildcats finished that first season with a 1-2 record.

 

On February 18, 1909, with a 28-23 win over Cincinnati, Kentucky clinched its first winning season in school history. Following a “Senior Day” loss to Central University, the Wildcats ended the year with a 5-4 record.

 

On February 18, 1950, Bill Spivey scored 40 points against Georgia Tech.
